Consulting at Nielsen Studios is multi-tiered and covers a number of areas:

  • Photography: Digital and conventional
  • Marketing and Sales: Niche marketing, web-based integrated marketing, sales as a part of marketing, the direct and indirect approaches
  • Writing: For the web, Public Relations, advertising
  • Integrated Business Consulting: Improve the bottom line, improve market share, increase sales, increase productivity and increase the ROI (return-on-investment)

The large murals pictured in the photo to the left are a result of research and consulting with Eastman Kodak in the 90s. From '95 to '98, I worked with Eastman Kodak in the area of high-end digital cameras and printers, and was able to work out the details of getting 17.2Mb files to large 4-8' sizes long before the software of today was in place. In the case of Eastman Kodak and their clients, workflow improvements and image improvements were worked out and applied.

Digital Camera Tips
Professional photographers using conventional films would point cameras into the sun and cut the F-Stop down – getting a sun burst effect over statues, mountains and so on. To point a digital camera into the sun is a big no-no – you could blow the chip in the camera.

Professional photographers using conventional films would open the shutter for long exposures or for multi-flash photos or for painting with light. This is not possible with digital cameras both on the basis of color or capability. The chip in a digital camera dumps with each exposure and the longest exposure that is of good quality is about a second or two. After that there are color shifts and resolution problems.

Professional photographers using conventional films would open the shutter and then open it again – a double exposure if you will. Since the chip in a digital camera dumps with each exposure you cannot double expose in digital. That is to put one thing on top of another for any effect. But this effect can be carried out with two different images on the computer and so this is not a great drawback.
