His Writing

John is a well-traveled photo-journalist and writer, co-authoring the award-winning To Be a Kid and Back to School and many other children's books (Charlesbridge) as well as authoring a travelogue, The Least Imperfect Path—A Global Journal for the Future (Paradigm Press Ltd.).

Kivirist and Ivanko are innkeepers, organic growers, copartners in a marketing consulting company and have previously published books. John is also an award-winning photographer, contributing to national and international publications including Wisconsin Trails, E Magazine, Islands, Parade and Scottish Life. Former advertising agency fast-trackers, they are nationally recognized for their contemporary approach to homesteading, conservation and more sustainable living. They share their farm with their son, two llamas, a flock of free-range chickens, and millions of ladybugs.

John has contributed to national and international magazines and his photos have appeared in such publications as Fodor's Gold Guides, Parade, Islands, SKY Magazine (Delta Air Lines), and Wisconsin Trails. He has a number of commercial clients including United Parcel Service, Mountain Travel*Sobek and Rotary International.
