* Technical Note, Vietnam Photos
As a creative type that deals now in the digital venue, I could of taken out all the lines but wanted to leave them in for effect. These are caused by the heat and humidity of Vietnam, making the film stick to the pressure plate in the camera. As the film is advanced it almost tears and film could never be left in cameras in those conditions. However, this is a good effect considering the subject of the photos and the time. Equipment: Nikon F 135MM Nikkor Lens.

Vietnam

If there is a soft side to war, it is the children, their innocence and their trying to be normal in an abnormal situation.

I believe this is the case in all wars, and the media never focuses, on this little, but promising niche - rather they make the focus the "blood and guts."

VietnamI did over one hundred combat missions in Vietnam in 1969-1970 and at the same time, all NCOs including myself, were assigned to teach children. When we arrived at the town of An Loc we were assigned to a middle school in the town.

The dress was formal as was the seating, with boys on one side of the room and girls on the other. It was the French that build the schools and put the emphasis on the children as the future. A good thought even today.

I and a half dozen others were assigned to teach English, and I must say that it was, and still is, a highlight. To another, wish bad policy and bad war. You can view several of the photos of those hopeful faces.

I am sure that much of this type of thing goes on with the troops in Iraq – for Americans are full of compassion and see the promise in hopeful faces – but then we do not see much of this reported, which is too bad.

It is not for me to comment on the policy that led to the Pandora's Box - that is Iraq; but rather to just take a moment to say remember the children that find their fate tied to this, or any war. And realize that it is not by their choice. They are the real victims.
