Digital Imaging : Tech Support : Lighting LIGHTING Lighting is one of the key areas in digital imaging. Careful consideration of the quality of light that will hit the Charge-Coupled Device (CCD) is essential. Daylight is convenient to use. When using daylight, make sure that there is no flare by using a lens hood at all times. Generally, as with conventional photography, keep the sun at your back.
Use reflectors for subjects close to the camera. Pop up reflectors are available for purchase at your local photographic supplier. For indoor shooting, it is recommended that you use a strobe light. At Nielsen Studios, we use Speedotron Strobes with the new 202VF heads. There are special considerations when lighting for digital cameras. For example, yellow is a tough color to get into flesh tones if going to the printed page. Therefore, it is wise to add this in the lighting of the subject when capturing people (i.e. use gold reflectors when making the portraits). Lighting is something that we experiment with on a daily basis and you can contact us with your particular problem. |
